Artist statement: “This piece is a development of my artistic process in terms of presence of mind through the process of painting. I began with a blank canvas with no plans in mind. The size of the canvas was inspired by the Gate Keeper piece. It’s a perfect size for me, it’s a great median in between a small mural and a large painting on canvas. In terms of the imagery itself, it all came together through a back and forth between line drawing with pastels and brush painting with acrylic. The imagery started to develop and take shape, and I began feeling the concept of meditation. Once that became the driving force, ideas began flowing through connected to the concept. The piece is inspired by meditation, it’s about meditation, it references other forms of meditation, and it is in itself a meditation. It’s an expression of the meditation experience, and it’s the visual record of me experiencing it throughout the creation of the painting. The question is, what is meditation to you?”
